My Spotify Wrapped 2024 | Music Highlights of the Year!

My Spotify Wrapped 2024 | The Teen Safe Zone
My Spotify Wrapped 2024 | The Teen Safe Zone

Hi everyone! Welcome, or welcome back, to The Teen Safe Zone where it's safe for teens to be themselves. I'm back from my unexpected almost-six-month hiatus (fingers crossed)! It seems as I'm getting older, I pop on here to info-dump helpful advice that I've learned while away, and then I leave again for another few months lol. And so the cycle repeats...

Just kidding! We're putting a stop to that this year! Happy 2025! I hope you all had a happy and safe New Year's! I have so much to share with you all and a lot to look forward to this year, but we'll save that for another time!

Today's blog post is all about Spotify Wrapped! I know, I know, I'm about a month late, but I just COULDN'T miss this blog's tradition of sharing my Spotify Wrapped results!

So here we go!

My Overall Thoughts:

If you've been following this blog for a while, you'll know that just like many others, I'm always super excited for Spotify Wrapped at the end of the year. I'll take it as far to say that I view it as a mini "Christmas gift" from Spotify lol! However, I found this year's Wrapped to be extremely disappointing. Not only from the execution of it, but also from the results I got (which I felt wasn't at all accurate).

Luckily, I kept a playlist and added my favorite songs throughout the entire year to track my listening habits (which is far more accurate in my opinion). 2024 was a great year of music, and though Wrapped didn't capture it, 2024 was the year I felt most proud of within finding my music taste outside of mainstream music.

Due to this, I'll be sharing the results I got from Wrapped, as well as my own personal predictions and data from the playlist I kept over the year.

As always, you can click on the link to view my Spotify Wrapped playlist in it's entirety (this time it is the one I created)!

Listening Minutes:

Drum roll please...!

22,757 minutes (which calculates to 15 days of nonstop music)

To be honest, this was the only element I enjoy in this year's Wrapped, as I made a fun little goal at the beginning of the year to get higher listening minutes on Spotify compared to 6,269 in 2023. I did it! Now I plan to (hopefully) do the same for 2025!

Predicted Top Artists:

As mentioned above, 2024 was the year of finding my music taste, and I was so sure that these three artists would end up on my Wrapped (and to my disappointment, neither showed in the algorithm)

  1. d4vd

I absolutely LOVED his music this year and I was so sure he'll end up in my top three artists. I remember finding him through his viral song "Here With Me" in 2023, but I didn't discover his other music until 2024. I personally enjoy his Indie Rock songs and listened to songs like "You & I" NONSTOP this year! I'm not sure what went wrong in the algorithm, but there's no doubt d4vd should've been on there.

  2. Gigi Perez

Okay, granted I was late to the party and didn't find her until October, and since Spotify stops counting somewhere around that time, it makes sense that she wasn't one of my top artists of the year. However, when I tell you, I'M OBSESSED! I'm obsessed. I've been listening to Sailor Song and Please Be Rude since October, and I'm still not tired of it yet! I love that indie artists are getting more recognition in mainstream music, and that people are paying more attention to the talent of lyricism than the beat. Gigi was literally the doorway to me stepping into finding the entire indie genre, and I absolutely adore it! Already, my playlists in 2025 are filled with artists like Adrianne Lenker and similar artists thanks to finding music like hers! Her songs are so different from what we typically hear. I can't wait to hear more of her music in 2025! (Also, she has so many other underrated songs such as Normalcy and Glue! Love, love, love it!)

  3. Lexi Jayde

I personally would have liked to see Lexi Jayde in my top artists this year too! I've been listening for a few years now, but for some reason I'm hooked to her song "What's The Matter With You?" It's so catchy in tone, but relatable as well!

Top Artists Of 2024:

For the moment of reveal. This (above) is what I wanted. . . and this (below) is what I got (dramatic sobbing lol)

  1. Ariana Grande

I enjoyed her new album Eternal Sunshine, and her older songs are practically my childhood. So I do enjoy a lot of her music, but I was slightly disappointed that this was my top artist of the year. I feel that maybe if she was in the top five artists of the year, it would make sense, but definitely not in the top three, and certainly not the first. :(

  2. Taylor Swift

Again, I like some of her songs, but I don't enjoy them that much to end up on my top artists of the year.

  3. Harry Styles

Okay, I'm not complaining this year lol. I've come to terms that he has ended up on my top artists for, I believe, THREE YEARS in a row now, so I must enjoy his music much more than I realize haha.

  4. Billie Eilish

I enjoyed a few songs from her newest album (such as Wildflower, The Greatest, Chihiro, and Birds of a Feather) but I wasn't exactly planning for her to end up on my top artists this year.

  5. Sabrina Carpenter

The Princess of Pop in 2024 I can give her that. Fun fact, I used to be a major SC fan back in 2017-2019 long before she became mainstream (any other og fans?!). So possibly I listened to a lot of her older songs that I used to enjoy for nostalgia, but otherwise than that, I'm still not sure how she ended up on my top artists. Her songs are pretty catchy though, but not my fav.

Overall, I would say the top artists were a big disappointment for me. I enjoyed a lot of indie and smaller artists this year, and was sad to see the algorithm overwrite them with mainstream artists. It seems that Wrapped only showed results from the first three months of 2024, and not the rest of the year. My listening tastes are off to a significantly different start this year, so fingers crossed that newer artists will show next time.

Predicted Top Song of The Year:

Out of all the songs I've listened to in 2024, I had this one on repeat since April (which personally holds memories from the spring break/solar eclipse era of my life, good times, good times). I had a feeling it would have been on my top songs of the year.

  1. You & I by d4vd

If I found Gigi Perez earlier in the year, Sailor Song and/or Please Be Rude (or at least one of her songs) would've been there as well.

Top Songs of the Year:

  1. Eternal Sunshine by Ariana Grande

Like it, but not that much to result on the top. Once again, I feel that the algorithm only tracked the first few months of the year, because I only had this on repeat in March...

  2. This Love by Taylor Swift

Now this is a song that I actually really liked this year (it's an older one, but I found it in 2024). I was kinda prepared for this one being in the top five.

  3. Iris by The Goo Goo Dolls

One of my favorite songs of all time! Not complaining about this one! It's soo pretty!

  4. Say Yes To Heaven by Lana Del Rey

I feel that this song should've been on the 2023 Wrapped, because I played it most then. I'm not sure how it ended up on the 2024 Wrapped :/

  5. Ur So Pretty by Wasia Project

Again, I played this song more towards the end of 2023. Somehow the algorithm got it listed under 2024...

Genres:

Hellooo?! Genres wasn't even a thing during this year's Wrapped. It was skipped entirely (and I, like many other people, am not considering the AI genres as legit lol). Spotify please bring back the genres next year!

But this is what I got:

  1. January was my "Pink Pilates Princess Strut Pop" phrase... (? This is just a bunch of random keywords put together lol)

  2. September was my "Lovecore Slow Dance Bedroom Pop" season

Apparently, everyone was supposed to get three months picked, but I only got two... it is what it is lol

My Favorite Songs of 2024:

Now moving on from the disappointment of Wrapped, and onto my personal favorite part of this blog: an overview of my favorite songs of 2024!

Remember the playlist I talked about earlier in this post? This segment lists a highlight of songs I've liked from January to November (December songs are included in my 2025 playlist, which you will see next year!), all categorized by genre (the real genre lol). I will only be listing a handful, as the entire playlist is over 8 hours of collected beauty haha. But you can listen to the full playlist if you'd like with the link above :)
