Journal Entry Prompts For Teenage Mental Health | The Teen Safe Zone

Journaling Prompts For Teenagers | The Teen Safe Zone

Hi everyone! Welcome or welcome back to "The Teen Safe Zone," where it's safe for teens to be themselves! Do you constantly have a cluttered mind thinking about the world around you or your future? Are you confused about where your mental health is currently? Or do you just want some peace and sanity and "isolate" from this world at times? As a teenager myself, I totally understand! Being a teenager is difficult, and it's hard to keep track of everything going on in your life at once.

This year, I started journaling to keep track of my thoughts and aspirations. I honestly wasn't expecting much from it, but as time went on, it was a great relief to see all of my thoughts written down instead of being trapped inside of my mind. So if you are a teenager that is struggling with mental health issues or crazy teenage hormones, I would recommend documenting your thoughts. You can either buy a journal, take a few scraps of paper, or write them down electronically, whichever one is accessible and works best for you!

However, this side of journaling is going deep. We're not talking about a neat and organized bullet journal, we are talking about writing down all of the good and the bad, the calm and the crazy. So please don't pressure yourself if your handwriting isn't neat, if you're not good at spelling, or if you can't draw; that isn't what we're focusing on. In today's post, I will be giving you all journal entry prompts to clear your mind. Writing down what you feel is therapeutic, so express yourself at all times during these journal entries; don't be afraid to write anything because the more you hold it in, the worse it gets.

Mental Health Prompts:

  1. Write Down Your Inner Thoughts; Write about the emotions you feel, the changes you wish you made, your regrets, etc., or anything else you've kept to yourself and haven't told anyone about, even if you don't like it. Holding things in is stressful, so this is your opportunity to write it down. Write as much as you need to, even if it takes a few pages! Scribble on it, color it, or do anything else that expresses your emotions while writing it!

  2. Write Down Habits You Dislike About Yourself, and How You Can Change That; We all have bad habits, even if some people won't admit it! Write down bad habits that you dislike about yourself and the steps you can take to change them. Write down small steps every day that you can do to result in big changes over time to help with the habit. If you don't know where to start, you can always research it!

  3. Write Down Motivational Quotes To Yourself; Believe it or not, sometimes we are our worst enemy! Our inner selves will sometimes make everything seem more serious than it actually is, which affects our decisions sometimes. So write down motivational quotes or letters to yourself and look back on them every day. Use this time to say something positive about yourself!

  4. Write A Letter To Your Future Self; What do you want your future self to be like? Is there anything you regret? Do you have any aspirations for the future? What habits do you want your future self to not have? Use this time to get out all of the curiosity and head-spinning thoughts about your future! If you remember, look back at this letter in a few years, or even next year, and respond!

  5. Write About Things You Hate Most In Life, But Can't Control; Unfortunately, we don't have control over everything in this life, and that makes life frustrating and difficult at times. What are some things you hate most in life that you don't have control over? How does it make you feel?

  6. Write About How You Think Your Life Could Be Better; What are the things you look forward to most in life? Would you like more friends? Be more outgoing? Travel the world?

  7. Write Daily Emotion Recaps; If you can keep up with daily writing, write down your emotions for that day. What changes could have been made to make your day positive or negative? Is there anyone you would blame (or even yourself) for the reason for your emotions for the day?

Releasing Thoughts Through Music Prompts:

  1. 1-800-273-8255 (National Suicide Prevention Hotline) By Logic, Alessia Cara, and Khalid; Listen to this song if you feel hopeless or suicidal. After listening to this song, write down your thoughts about it. Did it accurately express how you feel? Is there something you would add to it?

  2. Reasons To Stay By Kate Vogel; After listening to this song, do you feel that it gave you more hope than before? Are these words you would like someone to say to you in real life? Can you relate to these lyrics?

  3. Save Me By McKeena Brienholt; Does this song accurately express the words you can't explain? Is there anything you would like to add to it?

  4. You Don't Know By Katelyn Tarver; Does this song express your inner thoughts? Are these words you've thought or said before? Have you gotten out of that stage yet, and how? If not, what are steps you would like to take in life to give you hope?
